    What is mayonnaise?

Mayonnaise is a sauce made from a blend of oil, egg yolks, and vinegar or lemon juice. The origins of mayonnaise are unknown, but it is thought to have originated in either France or Spain. Mayonnaise was first mentioned in print in 1708 and was referred to as a French sauce. In 1756, a recipe for mayonnaise was published in an English cookbook.

    Is Mayo keto-friendly?

You might be wondering, "Is mayo keto?" Yes, mayo can be keto as it is typically high in fat and low in carbohydrates. However, choosing mayonnaise brands with minimal or no added sugars or other non-keto-friendly ingredients is important. You can also make homemade mayo to have more control over ingredients and enjoy it on your low-carb diet without any guilt!

Ingredients to avoid when looking for the best mayo for the keto diet

Avoid mayonnaise brands that use the following ingredients:

    • Processed oils- avoid canola, soybean, sunflower, or other vegetable oils. Instead, opt for coconut, avocado, or extra virgin olive oil.
    • Non-organic ingredients- It's 2025, and we can all agree that organic is best, especially when the product contains eggs.
    • Added sugar- sugar is a no-go on a keto diet! So, always choose sugar-free mayo brands.
    • Artificial ingredients- colors, flavors, disodium EDTA, and other junk don't belong in any diet, much less a low-carb diet.

Top 5 Best Keto Mayo Brands

The best choices for keto-friendly mayonnaise are made with healthy ingredients like avocado oil, cage-free eggs, vinegar without added high-fructose corn syrup and artificial preservatives. While most store-bought mayonnaise have keto-friendly macros, that doesn't mean they are healthy choices.

    • No-cook recipe

    Preparation steps

    1. Gather all the ingredients and tools.

    Instructions steps

    1. Add the egg to a jar and use an immersion blender to blend for 30 seconds.
    2. Add in the mustard, vinegar, and salt. Blend again for 10 seconds.
    3. With the immersion blender running, very slowly stream in the oil until incorporated.
    4. When all the oil has been added, if the mixture is too thin, stream in a bit more oil while blending until thickened.

How to serve with keto mayo?

    • Keto Lettuce Wraps: Slather the mayo onto low-carb wraps or use it as a spread in lettuce wraps for an extra layer of creaminess and flavor.
    • Seafood: Serve alongside grilled shrimp, salmon, or Crab Cakes as a delectable dipping sauce, enhancing the natural flavors of the seafood.
    • Keto snacks: Serve homemade mayo as a dipping sauce for Popcorn Shrimp, Mozzarella Sticks, or Chicken Poppers.

    How to make it healthier?

This low-carb mayonnaise is already a healthy choice, but here are a couple of tweaks you can make to enhance its nutritional profile even further:

    • Use light avocado oil instead of regular avocado oil to reduce the calorie and fat content.
    • Choose organic eggs to support sustainable farming practices while ensuring a higher quality egg.
    • Choose a low-sodium or no-salt-added Dijon mustard to reduce the sodium content.

    Time-saving tips

    • Double Batch: Make a double batch of mayo to have extra mayo on hand for future use.

    Storage and reheating instructions

    • Refrigerate homemade keto mayo in an airtight container to maintain freshness and prevent odor absorption. Store it at 40°F (4°C) or below for 10 days.

I just made my first batch, and it's fantastic!
I left out Dijon mustard though since sugar is in the ingredients.
Still, this is a very good recipe and I'm so glad I found it.
      Thank you.

I make my own mayo, same as your recipe but fresh squeezed lemon juice rather than vinegar - "I love lemon" - I throw in some lemon zest as well. This stuff is so easy to make at a fraction of the cost. I use EVO but next batch I will try the avocado oil.
