This Keto Burger is made to resemble an Animal Style Double Double Cheeseburger from In-N-Out. It's gluten-free, low-carb, and super tasty either as a bunless burger or with a Keto friendly bun.

Obviously you don't need a recipe for a simple Keto Burger but today we're sharing this In-N-Out copycat recipe that we think you're going to LOVE! I mean, who doesn't love In-N-Out?
Here are the benefits of making your own In-N-Out Keto Burger at home versus option for a fast food burger:
- low-carb - there's only about 3 net carbs in this Keto Burger
- quality ingredients - you have complete control to choose higher quality ingredients like grass-fed beef, unprocessed American cheese and organic veggies and fats if that's your thing
What's in an In-N-Out style Keto Burger recipe?
- butter grilled onions
- two mustard grilled burger patties
- one slice of American cheese
- fry sauce
- pickles
- tomato
How to make an In-N-Out Keto Burger at home
- First, you'll start by portioning out 4 (2-oz) ground beef patties. We opt for 85-15 beef. Flatten them out until they are about the width of your fist. Season with salt and pepper.
- Heat the butter in a cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Once melted, lower the heat the low add in the diced onions and allow to cook until dark golden brown, about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally but use this time to assemble the remaining ingredients.
- For the fry sauce, simply mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl or jar and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Once the onions are done, remove them to a plate and set aside.
- Increase the heat to medium and place the burgers in the skillet. Cook 2-3 minutes per side. Once you flip, brush the tops of each burger with a teaspoon of yellow mustard. Flip then place a slice of cheese on top of two of the burgers. Cover the skillet and cook for the 2-3 minutes while the cheese is melting.
- Assemble the Keto Burgers - if using a bun simply stack from the bottom up...tomato, pickle, a patty with cheese on top, the other patty, fry sauce, onions. If using lettuce simply do the same order and wrap in lettuce.

What is fry sauce?
Fry sauce is a condiment often served with French fries. It is usually a combo of one part tomato ketchup and two parts mayonnaise. We're upping the mayo a bit for some extra fat and using sugar-free ketchup to make this Keto friendly. Our favorite sugar-free Keto ketchup is Primal Kitchen. It tastes like fancy style ketchup, it's good! We also use Primal Kitchen avocado oil mayonnaise.
To make this In-N-Out style fry sauce we also added in a few teaspoons of minced dill pickles, vinegar, and a Keto sweetener, we used powdered erythritol.
Where to find unprocessed American style cheese?
We were STOKED to see two options in our local grocery store lately. One is from Organic Valley and Horizon Organics. Applegate also has an American style cheese and there are a few other brands floating around out there that make quality, ACTUAL cheese, American Singles.
Keto Burger bun options
For this recipe, you can use a bun or lettuce as pictured. If you choose to go the bun route, here are a few of our favorite buns for low-carb burgers and a recipe that turns out perfect every time.
Store-bought options:
UnBun - we purchase these buns at Whole Foods, they resemble the buns from Diet Doctor that we link to below
Smartbun - we haven't tried these but a few of you have recommended them to us
Sola - we haven't tried these as they are not gluten-free but if you're not celiac or gluten intolerant then these may work for you!

We love this recipe from Diet Doctor! It's simple and they come out perfect every time.

Sounds Delicious. My husband loves the burgers from there with a lettuce wrap. Do you happen to know a good Keto bun recipe?
Can't seem to find unprocessed American cheese slices right now....looking but maybe thinking you all would have an idea where to buy. I am in Colorado, just so you know.
I am looking forward to trying this!! My husband will love you as well....LOL...

Man, I can't wait to make this. I'm going to us Primal Kitchens spicy Kitchen. Anyways, serving says 2 using 1/2 beef. So the double is 2 2oz patties correct?
Thanks

That's correct!

Recipe really gets all those flavors of going there. We used Impossible meat as a sub as we are tired of so much meat on the diet - was great as you can't get it that way at In-n-out, sol delicious one of the best meals we had in a long time

Made these over the weekend and again tonight sans cheese (dairy free for the summer)!! Caramelized onions

OMG... I have been craving a real burger but we aren't allowed to leave our town (I live in Spain) with the COVID restrictions and you can't get a good burger anywhere around. This hit the spot and satisfied my craving! Thank you! I will be making this again and again! Kids ate with buns, the hubby with a home-made gluten free bun and I with lettuce... YUM!

These are AMAZING!! We used sliced Colby jack and added freshly sliced red onion, too. So good. Cannot wait to make it again.

Sooo good! Tastes just like real In-N-Out. I used the 0 carb buns from Aldi (L'Oven brand); their flavor and texture are the closest to "real" bread, imho.
