In the mood for something easy and delicious? Who isn’t? Well look no further, this Keto Cheesy Cabbage Sausage Skillet is a breeze to make! It’s so tasty and best of all even easier to clean up. Personally, this is my perfect keto meal. That’s because it has tons of veggies, a little bit of cheese, and high-quality Kiolbassa sausages.
The sausage really is the star of the dish and I could have just done a recipe for polish smoked sausage with peppers and onions. However, with the big winter storm that just passed through and dumped a foot or so of snow, which is a huge deal in the South, we’ve been snowed in and watching a lot of Chopped re-runs so I wanted to elevate the dish and make something special.
(Sidebar: My childhood vacations usually included a trip to Dollywood and every time I smell peppers and onions being sautéed with sausage I’m immediately taken back there in vivid detail. I remember waiting in line for the Blazing Fury ride wearing my blue jean cargo shorts with a wind up disposable camera in one of the many pockets, my American Eagle shirt which included some sort of double entendre I didn’t quite understand, and my faithful Pillsbury bough boy hat. All while my mom or dad would be in line with me wearing a poncho because they didn’t want to get wet.)
Why Kiolbassa Sausages?
Anyways, back to the point. I don’t even want to know what might have been in those Dollywood sausages but I know I can trust Kiolbassa to be the highest quality of meat. It’s completely free from preservatives, gluten, MSG, fillers, and cereals. That’s why we use their product in lots of our recipes, like this Keto Pierogi Sausage Skillet.
In fact, the good folks at Kiolbassa make such a fantastic product they stand behind it 100%. If it’s not the best sausage you’ve ever eaten, you get your money back. Those are strong words in today’s world. I’m guessing they don’t have very many complaints. They’ve been hand-crafting a variety of sausages and bacon since Harry S. Truman was in office. They do it as good or better than anybody so go ahead and give this recipe and Kiolbassa a try!
I know I’m definitely going to check out the chorizo next to keep my eggs company on my breakfast plate.

Hi I will be trying this recipe, but first I have a ? about my cast iron pan. The pan came pre-seasoned. After I use it I rinse it out but it rust every time. What am I doing wrong?.Thanks [email protected]@gmail,com
Hi Kathy, I’m guessing that the seasoning isn’t quite up to where it needs to be, are you drying it completely after rinsing? Any water left on the pan will cause it to rust. Have a look at our post which details how to season and care for cast iron – https://www.castironketo.net/blog/how-to-season-cast-iron
If you wash a cast iron skillet and you want it to stay non stick and not rust. After you rinse it, put it back on the stove and heat it till it’s good and hot. Then put just a few drops of cooking oil in it and rub it around good till you know it’s good and rubbed in.
I’ve always been under the impression that tomatoes in cast iron is a no no
Not true! Your pan may need just a bit more love after making a tomato heavy dish but the amount of tomatoes in this recipe won’t change a thing. Now, if you were making a tomato soup in a cast iron pot it would be ok but you’d need to make sure to rub it down with a good amount of oil after using it that way.
How many servings is this? Or serving size?
It’s listed at the top of the recipe.
Hi Alex!
This dish was really good. My husband is a minimalist with words, but I actually got a “this is really good babe!” Unusual for him. Lol! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I’ll for sure be making this dish again.
Sonia ?
Made this tonight. Sam’s Club had the Kiolbassa brand in beef only. A 46 oz. pkg. I used 3 links. Needed a little more cabbage. Didn’t use a cast iron skillet. Very tasty. Husband had 2 helpings. Will make again with maybe a cheese sauce instead.
My husband and I love this recipe! I add baby Bella mushrooms-we love mushrooms. We live in Florida now and originally from Chicago-so normally disappointed in store bought Polish sausage vs authentic. This brand is not authentic, but very good and not fatty or rubbery!
Thanks for the recipe and introducing “Kilobassa” brand!
Lucia
Hi Lucia, I’m thrilled you guys enjoyed this recipe!
Do I use fresh or tinned tomatoes?
You can use either!
Alex — Can’t wait to try this recipe! Sorry if this is a stupid question, but does the nutritional info refer to the whole recipe or a single serving? Thanks!
Hi Rob, the nutritional info is for one serving.
I made this last night and it was delicious! The cabbage came out really sweet
What if we don’t have cast iron?
Good, but I think I may add red pepper and sliced jalapenos next time. Didn’t have any garlic and just used garlic powder, so maybe thrash why it was a bit bland to me
I made this a bit differently, I’m not a fan of cooked cabbage so I used broccoli for the greens and added mushrooms. Came out fantastically thanks for the idea!
What is the suggested serving size?
Can it be frozen in smaller containers
Yes!
Alex, I love all of your keto recipes and I can’t wait to give this one a try!!!
Delicious! Used mild verde salsa instead of the bell pepper because it was what we had. My one year old loved the whole thing, especially the cooked cabbage mixed with the sausage.
I loved this. So good!
I added a little bit of taco seasoning and it came out absolutely delicious! Very pleased with this recipe, looks like it’ll be a staple in our house!!
LOVE this recipe!!!
I made this today, it was just the thing to brighten up a day of “social distancing!” I used a can of Rotell since that’s what I had, and added shredded sharp cheddar with the Mozzarella. Truly one of the best keto dishes I’ve ever made, thanks for the recipe!
Very good. Made just as recipe called. Family really enjoyed.
I substituted roasted red peppers and powder garlic as I had run out of fresh peppers and garlic…. it was yummy. Next time I will add dollops of fresh ricotta as well!
Totally loved this dish! Even my non cabbage loving dad. Making it again. I think this will become a “go to” recipe. I even “pinned” it! Thanks for getting it together.
Great recipe and easy. Instead of Keilbasa I used Aidells all natural chicken and apple smoked sausage. The meal was so satisfying. I also used olive oil to cook everything.
This was easy and soooooo good! We loved it!
Made this tonight for supper. Added mushrooms, turmeric and a lil splash of apple cider vinegar. Delicious
Delicious one pan meal. Great combination of flavors with quick and easy clean up.
Not to crazy about the cheese in this.
Quick and easy. We have very large Ukrainian population where I live so there are a lot of kielbasa options 😋 I mixed two different brands to try and turned out great. This is my first cast iron keto recipe so I’ll definitely check out more!
I just tried this recipe. I used bacon grease instead of butter but followed the recipe for everything else. It was delicious! Will definitely make again!
Ohhhh my taste buds!! This is so incredibly good!
This was a delicious and easy dinner. I used garlic sausage, cabbage, red, green and yellow peppers and a little jalapeño because we like spice. I used a can of hot rotel because that’s what I had and also used mozzarella abs Monterey Jack. So good! I also broiled it for a few minutes after it cooked to get a nice brown topping. Thank you so much for sharing
I don’t have cast iron skillet – what should I use in oven instead?
Hi Nancy – you’ll need to use a classic baking dish in the oven or an oven-safe skillet like copper or stainless steel.
We love this recipe. I see it says 377 calories per serving but I’m not seeing the serving size ?
Very tasty recipe. Made this as per the recipe and will make it again.
Really enjoyed this, maybe add a little chilli next time.
I made this for my son and he ate two big servings!!! Said it was delicious!!!! I used the rotel like one reviewer suggested and they loved it!!!!! Will make this one again!!! Thank you
Delicious!
Made this tonight and it was a huge hit with the whole family! I used a whole onion and a whole head of cabbage and it was still delicious!! Thank you for the recipe. This will be a keeper for sure.
