This Turmeric Chicken Soup is a great low-carb, gluten-free, Keto-friendly, healthy, and Whole30 soup option that's perfect for when you're feeling under the weather.

One thing that always makes us feel better when we're under the weather is a massive bowl of soup and this Turmeric Chicken Soup is the perfect blend of healing foods and shredded chicken. Turmeric and ginger are both super anti-inflammatory and perfect for when the sniffles hit. Let's chat about this soup in detail!
What's in Turmeric Chicken Soup?
- ghee (want to make this soup dairy-free? Use avocado oil or schmaltz)
- onion
- garlic
- fresh ginger
- fresh turmeric
- cilantro (stems and all)
- ground coriander
- smoked paprika
- apple cider vinegar (the good kind with the "mother")
- chicken bone broth (also the good kind - if it jiggles it's good!)
- chicken breast (shredded or sliced after cooking)
- lemon
- salt
How to make Turmeric Chicken Soup:
- Heat the ghee in a large 5 or 6-quart Dutch oven over medium heat. Once hot add in the onion, garlic, jalapeno, ginger, turmeric, and cilantro. Cook, stirring occasionally for 4 minutes. Add in the ground coriander and paprika. Cook another minute before adding in the ACV.
- Add in the bone broth, water, chicken breast and lemon, bring to a boil the cover. Cook for 25 minutes. Uncover and transfer the chicken to a cutting board. Shred or slice the chicken and add it back to the soup. Taste for salt and add more if necessary.
- To serve, divide the soup between bowls.
Can I use a slow cooker or Instant Pot?
You can, be sure to still saute the vegetables to bring out the most flavor.
Can I use rotisserie chicken?
Yes! Just stir in rotisserie chicken at the end of the cooking time. If you don't need to cook the chicken in the broth, reduce the simmering time to 10 minutes making this a 20-minute soup!

What is the serving size? Cup or bowl? I can't wait to try this over the weekend. Thanks
Cast Iron Keto says
Hi Kevin, the serving size is simply 1/4th of the recipe. It comes out to roughly 2 cups of soup per serving.

I'm giving 4 stars because I think if I cut back on the lemon, I'd really like it. One lemon was way too much. I removed all the lemons after the simmer was done and I tasted it. As is, I would put this at 3 maybe 2 stars. I was hoping to drop off some of this to a family member but I can't do that with the strong lemon flavor.
That said, I can tell that it has a lot of yummy other flavors and was quite easy to make so I will try again.

I've made this 5 times now. Delicious. I don't have fresh tumeric so I replaced with powdered. Also I use lemon juice instead of the whole lemon. I've had the rind fall apart after cooking which causes a terribly bitter soup and way too lemony.

Just a question:
Where does all the sodium come from? That is over my husband's daily allowance of 2000 mg. We want to try this recipe, but I can't figure out where to cut back on salt.
Thanks!
Cast Iron Keto says
Hi, the sodium is coming from the broth. To reduce it, use a low-sodium broth or even make a homemade one with no salt added. Hope this helps!
