    Preparation and cooking overview

Start by cooking the ground beef with taco seasoning, then set it aside. Next, make a keto-friendly nacho cheese sauce by melting shredded cheese with heavy cream in the microwave. Put together your crunchwrap by layering the beef, sauce, and fresh veggies on a low-carb tortilla, then fold it up nicely. Toast the wrap until it's nice and crispy.

    Chef's note

Feel free to get creative with the filling of your homemade crunchwrap. You can go for a mix of beef and pork mince or even add some minced Mexican sausage. Whatever you choose, go light with the seasoning, especially the salt. The nacho cheese already brings a salty punch to the filling.

🌯 Ingredients for keto crunchwrap recipe

To make the low-carb crunchwrap at home, you'll need these simple ingredients:

    For the filling and wrap

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 10 ounces ground beef
    • 2 tablespoons taco spice
    • ¼ cup sour cream
    • 2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
    • ½ cup diced tomatoes
    • 4 carb-free tortillas
    • Sea salt, to taste

    For the nacho cheese sauce

    • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
    • ¼ cup heavy cream
    • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
    • Pinch of cayenne pepper
All the ingredients required to make keto crunchwrap are gathered and arranged on the table.

    Ingredient substitutions

If you see something on the ingredient list that you'd rather skip, consider these alternatives:

    • Olive oil: Substitute olive oil with the same amount of avocado oil.
    • Taco spice: If you don't have ready-made taco spice, make a homemade taco seasoning with ground cumin, chili powder, and paprika.
    • Iceberg lettuce: Swap iceberg lettuce with romaine or butter lettuce.
    • Heavy cream: If you want a dairy-free alternative, swap heavy cream with coconut cream.

    Additional ingredients

Boost the flavor of your keto crunch wrap with these optional ingredients:

    • Sliced jalapeƱos: Add some spice by layering a few slices of jalapenos on top of the beef before adding the shredded lettuce.
    • Avocado slices: Add avocado slices between the lettuce and tomato for a creamier texture.
    • Olives: Add chopped olives into the nacho cheese sauce for a Mediterranean twist.
    • Minced garlic: Add minced garlic to the ground beef while cooking it to enhance the flavor.
    • Fresh cilantro: Add some fresh cilantro to the filling for a fresh note.

How to make Keto Crunchwrap: step-by-step guide

    Cooking methods

    • SautĆ©ing
    • Microwaving
    • Toasting

    Preparation steps

    1. Gather and measure all the ingredients.
    2. Wash the tomatoes and lettuce to remove any dirt. Then, dice the tomatoes and shred the iceberg lettuce.

    Cooking steps

    1. Heat olive oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
    2. Add ground beef. Stir in the taco spice and season with sea salt as needed. Cook until the meat is evenly browned.
    3. Next, combine shredded cheddar cheese, heavy cream, cumin powder, and cayenne pepper in a microwave-safe bowl.
    4. Microwave the mixture at 15-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted.
    5. Then, lay a piece of tortilla on a plate. Layer in nacho cheese, cooked beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream.
    6. Fold the edges of the tortilla toward the center, creating pleats as you go around.
    7. Then, place the wrap, folded side down, on a hot skillet and toast for 1-2 minutes per side.
    8. Serve hot and enjoy.

    Chef's pro tip

Make sure not to pack too much into your keto crunchwrap so it stays neatly folded while toasting. Overlap the edges as you wrap it up. To keep everything in place, stick a toothpick through the top layer of the tortilla and slightly into the filling.

What to serve with the keto crunchwrap?

The low-carb crunchwrap makes a great meal on its own, but if you want to pair it with a side dish, check out these options:

    • Keto Crackslaw: This crunchy, tangy dish complements the beef's rich taste without the added carbs.
    • Halloumi Fries: Savor the cheesy goodness of these low-carb alternatives to traditional fries. For another cheesy delight, consider our Parmesan Cheese Crisps recipe.

    How to make it healthier?

    • Replace the tortilla with a lettuce wrap for a fresher and healthier alternative.

    Time-saving tips

    • We used store-bought keto-friendly tortillas to cut down on preparation time, so if you can find them in a local store or online, make sure to get a pack.
    • If preparing bigger batches, you can toast your wraps in the oven instead of doing it one by one on a skillet.

What can I prepare ahead of time?

    • SautĆ© the ground beef beforehand and store it in an airtight container in the fridge. Just heat it lightly before you assemble the crunchwrap.

    Storage and reheating instructions

    Storage instructions

    • Refrigerator: Store the leftover crunchwraps in an airtight container in the fridge. They'll remain fresh for 2-3 days.

    Best reheating practices

    • Microwave: Place the crunchwrap on a microwave-safe plate and heat for 1-2 minutes on high.
    • Stovetop: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the crunchwrap and cook each side for 1-2 minutes until it reaches your desired level of crispiness.

Very tasty and not terribly difficult. I would suggest draining the meat on a paper towel as they did end up a little greasy. Regular sized tortillas are a little tricky but the low carb brand I love (Hero) doesn't make burrito size which would be a ton easier.
