πŸ• Ingredients for this keto pizza pull-apart rolls recipe

    Organize your ingredients as follows:

    Pizza

    • 1 batch of keto dinner rolls
    • Β½ cup mini pepperoni
    • Β½ cup shredded mozzarella
    • Β½ cup shredded cheddar
    • ΒΌ cup shredded parmesan

    Marinara

    • 1 tablespoon oil
    • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
    • 1 cup crushed tomatoes

    Ingredient substitutions

Don't have the exact ingredient listed above? Don't worry; you can use substitutes for the following elements:

    • Mini pepperoni: Use regular pepperoni slices, chicken breast, or other keto-friendly toppings.
    • Marinara sauce: Substitute with Pesto sauce for a nutty, salty taste or with Alfredo sauce for a creamy, rich flavor.
    • Butter: Use avocado oil to grease the skillet. Since it has a neutral taste, it won't affect the flavor much.Β

Note: Make sure to use the same amount of substitute ingredients as the original ones to balance nutrients.

    Additional ingredients

    • Red pepper flakes: If you are in for some spice, add red pepper flakes to your low-carb pull-apart pizza bread before serving.
    • Sliced black olives: Add some sliced black olives to your toppings for a savory taste.
    • Diced green bell peppers: Use diced bell peppers to introduce sweetness and crunch to your keto pizza rolls.
    • Chopped mushrooms: Put in chopped mushrooms for a meaty texture and a slightly earthy flavor

Note: Be mindful that adding new ingredients (even if keto-friendly) can cause the carb count to increase. So adjust the count accordingly and enjoy the enhanced flavors of the pull-apart keto pizza rolls.

    Cooking tools required

To make this Keto Pizza Pull-Apart Rolls recipe, you'll need the following tools:

    • Mixing bowl
    • Whisk
    • Stand Mixer
    • Measuring cups and spoons
    • Cast Iron Skillet (10.5 inches)
    • Oven mitts
    • Saucepan
    • Cutting board
    • Shredders

    Tools substitute options

    • Cast Iron Skillet: We recommend you use a non-stick frying pan. Monitor the heat to prevent the pizza bread from burning.
    • Stand Mixer: You can still mix the ingredients by hand or hand mixer.
    • Shredder: Finely chop the toppings with a sharp knife.
    • Saucepan: Make the sauce with a small pot or a deep skillet.

How to make Keto Pizza Pull-Apart Rolls: step-by-step guide

    Cooking methods

    • Baking
    • SauteeingΒ

    Preparation steps

    1. Gather ingredients and tools: Ensure you have all the ingredients and tools before starting the cooking process.
    2. Measure ingredients: Measure all the ingredients with measuring cups and spoons to ensure the recipe turns out as intended.
    3. Prepare fathead dough balls: make one batch of keto dinner rolls, refrigerate them for 10 minutes, and put them in a butter-greased skillet.
    4. Preheat the oven: preheat the oven to 400Β°F

    Cooking instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 400Β° F.
    2. Make the keto dinner rolls according to their instructions until the part where you put the raw dough into the skillet.
    3. Layer in the shredded cheese and pepperoni between and over the raw rolls once they are placed in the skillet.
    4. Bake for 30-35 minutes in the preheated oven, covering with foil around the 20-minute mark to prevent the tops from burning.
    5. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
    6. For the marinara, heat the oil in a small pot over medium heat, add in the spices, and saute for 30 seconds. Add the crushed tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes until hot.

    Chef's pro tip

Make sure to keep your eagle eyes on those pizza bread rolls - we want them baked to perfection without any nasty singes! If you're not using a cast iron skillet, the heat might play a little game of hide and seek, potentially causing the bottom to get too toasty too fast. To outsmart this, go easy on the heat, keeping it medium-low. And hey, if you notice the top of your bread throwing a tan faster than the rest, cover it with aluminum foil and reduce the heat until it is cooked through.

    How to make it healthier

    • Top your keto pizza bread with turkey pepperoni or chicken breast to reduce fat and calories.
    • Use plant-based toppings like bell pepper, olives, and mushroom to create a meatless snack.
    • Swap regular cheese with low-fat cheese or vegan cheese, free of dairy and cholesterol.

    Time-saving tips

    • Batch-make keto dinner rolls ahead of time.
    • Buy pre-shredded cheese rather than shredding it yourself.
    • Use parchment paper in the skillet to minimize cleanup.
    • Use pre-made marinara sauce if you're short on time to create a new one.

What can I prepare ahead of time?

    • Make keto bread rolls in batches, keep them in an airtight container or plastic wrap, and refrigerate until you are ready.
    • Shred the cheese and ready all your toppings.
    • Prepare the marinara sauce ahead of the baking. This will not just save you from stress but also help the flavors to meld together.

    Storage and reheating instructions

Left with multiple pull-apart pizza rolls even after you had your fill? Well, you can easily store them for the next day's snack or meal.

    Storage methods

    • Fridge: Put the leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days. Before storing, ensure they are completely cooled down to room temperature.
    • Room Temperature: If you plan to eat the rolls soon in an hour or so, put them in an air-tight container at room temperature.
    • Freezer: Need the rolls to last a week or even months? Wrap them with plastic foil, and store them in the freezer in a freezer-safe bag or container.

    Reheating methods

You can bring the stored pull-apart keto pizza rolls back to life with the following simple steps:

    • Oven: Preheat the oven to 350Β°,  place the rolls on a baking sheet, and heat the leftovers for 8-10 minutes or until heated.
    • Microwave: Place the leftover pull-apart pizza rolls in a microwave-safe plate and heat them for 30 seconds to 1 minute while covering the top with a damp paper towel. Doing this will help trap the moisture and prevent the rolls from drying out.

Pro tip: Avoid microwaving the rolls too long as they may become too soggy and soft.

    Frequently asked questions

No, you can't. Coconut and flaxseed flours may be keto-friendly, but they aren't quite a match for pizza pull-apart bread. Coconut flour requires more moisture, and ground flaxseed needs additional ingredients, such as eggs, to bind the dough together.

Even if you adjust the moisture and additional carb, remember that different flours behave and taste differently. They can affect the overall flavor of the pizza.

Yes, you can use a different type of cheese instead of mozzarella, such as feta or goat cheese. However, these cheeses have intense flavors and can overpower other ingredients. Hence, they should be used in moderation.

Also, they do not precisely have the texture of grated mozzarella cheese. They have higher moisture can make the pizza soggy. So, they should be rained well before using them on the cheese layer.

The pull-apart pizza bread should be golden brown when they are fully cooked. The outer layer of the bread should have a crispy texture giving way to a soft interior. Also, the pizza-like smell of the ingredients should indicate the doneness.

Other than pepperoni slices, you can use sliced mushrooms, diced bell peppers, sliced onions, shredded chicken, diced jalapenos, and bacon bits.

Feel free to experiment with other keto-friendly pizza toppings to make your dish flavorful. However, adjust the nutritional values accordingly for an effective diet recipe.

You can use pesto or Alfredo sauce instead of classic marinara sauce. They are made with fat-rich ingredients such as olive oil and cream, making them fit for a keto diet. Just be aware that different sauces may significantly change the taste of the pizza rolls.

This was my first recipe from your sight. Made it last night and it was a hit! Ate my first leftovers today, and they are better then last night. Added a tiny bit of stevia to sauce, but otherwise no changes. Will do it again! Thanks!! (side note: because of lots o cheese was a bit swollen this morning, so drink, drink, drink around this dinner-well worth it!)

Awesome to hear that you enjoyed them! With so much cheese and pepperoni it is a good idea to load up on water, thanks for sharing!

This is my son’s favorite meal, and unfortunately we just found out he is sensitive to eggs. I tried using chia seed egg replacers and it was a big fail. Do you have any suggestions for replacing eggs in this recipe?

One, probably dumb, question. Do I bake the dinner rolls first, then adding the pizza ingredients and baking from there? Or do I have raw dough in my skillet, add ingredients, then bake?

Hi Velda, not a dumb question at all. It does seem our instructions are quite confusing. You'll make the rolls up until the point where you put the raw dough in the skillet, then layer in the pizza ingredients then bake. Hope this helps!

Are the nutrition values for one serving, or the entire skillet?

Can you use sausage for this recipe instead of the pepperoni?

Sure, just make sure the sausage is cooked before adding it to the rolls.
