Ingredients For This Keto Hoagie Rolls Recipe

Here are all the ingredients you need to bake keto rolls at home:

    • 1 ½ cups almond flour
    • ¼ cup psyllium husk powder
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon sea salt
    • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
    • 3 large egg whites
    • 1 cup boiling water
    • 1 tablespoon melted butter

    Ingredient Substitutions

    • Melted butter: Substitute butter with olive oil for a dairy-free alternative.

    Additional Ingredients

    • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds: Sprinkle some seeds atop the dough before baking for extra flavor.
    • Chopped fresh herbs: Chop some fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme and fold them into the dough for a fresh, aromatic flavor.

    Cooking Tools Required

    • Measuring cups and spoons
    • Mixing bowl
    • Whisk
    • Baking sheet
    • Parchment paper

    Tools Substitute Options

    • Parchment paper: If you don’t have parchment paper, lightly grease your baking sheet with olive oil or butter to prevent sticking.

How To Make Keto Hoagie Rolls: Step-By-Step Guide

    Cooking methods

    • Baking

    Preparation steps

    1. Measure out all ingredients and set them aside.
    2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    3. Melt the butter in a small bowl.
    4. Separate egg whites from the yolks and keep them in a separate bowl.

    Cooking instructions

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    2. In a large bowl, whisk together almond flour, psyllium husk powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
    3. Stir in apple cider vinegar and egg whites. Mix thoroughly until the dough is thick and sticky.
    4. Slowly pour in the boiling water, stirring continuously. The dough will thicken and become slightly stretchy as the psyllium husk absorbs the liquid.
    5. Divide the dough into 4-6 portions, depending on your preferred roll size. Shape each into an oval or hoagie roll form and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
    6. For added flavor and a golden crust, brush each roll with melted butter.
    7. Finally, place the dough in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the rolls are firm and golden brown.
    8. Let the rolls cool slightly before slicing; they’ll continue to firm up as they cool.

    Chef's pro tip

For the perfect texture, make sure your water is boiling hot when you add it to the dough. This activates the psyllium husk and helps create the bread-like consistency that makes these keto rolls satisfying.

What To Serve With Keto Hoagie Rolls

Keto hoagie rolls are a great side dish to accompany your meal. We suggest serving them with:

    • Deli meats: Halve the rolls and shingle deli meats along with cheese and veggies in between the layers for the classic sandwich experience.
    • Grilled meats: Pair the rolls with grilled meats and use the bread to mop up the delicious dregs of gravy.

What Can I Prepare Ahead Of Time?

    • Hoagie dough: The dough for the rolls can be mixed and shaped ahead of time. Store the unbaked rolls in the fridge for no more than four hours.

    Storage And Reheating Instruction

    Storage instructions

    • Fridge: Store the baked rolls in an airtight container or ziplock bag in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
    • Freezer: Freeze the hoagie rolls in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. For best results, slice the rolls before freezing and wrap them in a plastic wrap.

    Reheating best practices

    • Oven: Reheat the rolls in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 5-7 minutes to restore their crispiness and warmth.

    Recipe Wrap-Up And Conclusion

These soft, chewy Keto Hoagie Rolls are an excellent alternative to carb-heavy bread, making it easy to enjoy your favorite sandwiches while staying on track with your keto diet. With minimal prep and ingredients, these rolls are perfect for meal prep or serving fresh out of the oven. Once you try them, you’ll never miss traditional hoagie rolls again!

    Frequently asked questions

Traditional hoagie rolls are not keto-friendly, as they’re made with high-carb wheat flour. However, this recipe uses almond flour and psyllium husk powder, making these rolls low in carbs and suitable for a keto diet.

We suggest including the psyllium husk powder for the best texture — it gives the rolls a chewy, bread-like consistency while keeping them low-carb.

This can happen when using certain brands of psyllium husk. It’s still perfectly safe to eat, but to avoid this in the future, try switching to a different brand of psyllium husk powder.

Absolutely! You can mix in herbs like rosemary or oregano, or add garlic powder and Parmesan cheese to the dough for extra flavor.

I must have missed something, it is tough to get golden brown when the dough is black. The bread actually turned out pretty good but definitely was not the consistency or color of a hoagie role. I would love to know what I did wrong. Also i doubled ingredients and only formed 6 rolls.

        Hi Kyle,

Thanks for the feedback! 🌟 The dark color likely came from the psyllium husk powder—some brands turn baked goods purple or black. We recommend a light-colored one. Also, doubling the recipe and making only 6 rolls may have made them denser than intended. Try shaping into 8 next time for a lighter texture. Glad it still tasted great! 🥖😊

        Hi Andy,

Sorry to hear that! Can you tell us a bit more about what didn’t work for you—whether it was the texture, how they baked up, or something else? We’d really appreciate the feedback so we can understand what happened.
