Who loves orange soda? Kel loves orange soda.  It's been two decades since I've seen an episode of Nickelodeon's Kenan & Kel, but for those last twenty years every time I've had an orange soda I end up quoting Kel.  The late nineties nostalgia doesn't end there, this recipe was the first time I had used avocado in the base recipe without chocolate, so as it mixed the batter turned bright green like nickelodeon slime I so badly wanted to covered in as a child.   

If you've never indulged in a poke cake before don't worry.  Poke cakes were big in the 1970's and still remain popular in the southeastern U.S.  It is aptly named because you are to stab it with a fork or other pointy object (great form of stress relief) to make pokes, then the pokes get filled with something delicious, in this instance its a orange soda glaze.

Eating Keto has been an excellent way for me to fuel my body, so I am always ready for adventure and I am thankful for those companies and brands, like Zevia, who are removing unnecessary sugar and artificial flavors from their products, or creating product that never had them in the first place.  Ten years ago a Keto diet would have felt a lot more restrictive, but today it’s simpler to enjoy the kinds of foods I’ve always loved without all the garbage ingredients. That’s one of the many reasons I was excited to partner with Zevia for this cake recipe.

Zevia’s sodas are one of my favorite products I routinely grab from the grocery store.  They are zero calorie and zero sugar, and sweetened only with stevia, just like this cake so it won’t raise your blood sugar.  And my favorite part of this recipe absolutely has to be just how absolutely moist it is, the mixture of orange soda and avocado mixed with the orange soda glaze seeping down through the "pokes" makes this cake a staple for cookouts, parties, or just a cure for a sweet tooth.

Keto Orange Poke Cake

Perfect for parties, cookouts, or just as dessert this keto poke cake is a treat that won’t raise your blood sugar.

  • 2 ¾ cup almond flour

  • 1 ½ cup granulated stevia

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 6 eggs

  • ½ cup butter, melted

  • 1 avocado, puréed

  • 2 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2 teaspoons natural orange flavoring

  • 1 cup Zevia Orange Soda


  • 2 tablespoons Orange Zevia

  • ¼ cup granulated Stevia

  • 1 teaspoon natural orange flavoring


  • 8 ounces unsweetened whipped cream


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F

  2. Add eggs, melted butter, puréed avocado, and vanilla to bowl, mix until smooth.

  3. Add in dry ingredients, mix until smooth.

  4. Pour batter into a 10-12 inch skillet (or 8 inch cake pan), bake for 40-55 minutes.

  5. For the glaze , mix together the ingredients over low heat until melted. Poke holes in the top of the cake then pour over the glaze.

  6. Ice the cake with the whipped cream and serve.
